(OP)space: The goal of the studio was to design a project that is a flexible, transportable, and reconfigurable architecture in order to help re-activate the empty storefronts that rupture the urban fabric of downtown San Jose. The design is a series of 10 hinged hexagons, that can be opened or closed to adapt to the needs of the users. As each hexagonal piece opens: a seat becomes a table, which potentially becomes a wall – flexible space. The winning concept of the studio, designed by Alexa Getting and myself and was fabricated and assembled this past summer by a team of CCA students led by Mona El-Khafif (Studio Instructor) and Kory Bieg (Fabricator/Designer). The Op(Space) project was featured at the San Jose SJ01 Tech Biennal. | (OP)Space: City/Space/Share Studio :: California College of the Arts :: Faculty: Mona ElKhafif & Kory Bieg |
