The driving factor of this studio was participation in the UIA Extreme Student Competition - 2005. The point of the studio was to create spaces in extreme conditions worldwide which addressed varying factors including site and program.
I used a combination of DOL systems and Shape Grammar to create the form of a cooperative. I wrote a code based on the principles of a cooperative and used this code to inform the ensuing shape of the space As the project started to take shape the spaces created by the spatialized code began to coach to interior spaces of the cooperative as well. The three spaces are primarily flex spaces with different strengths for different types of community programing. Some spaces are more naturally public to be used for a market, party or show while some are more private to function as service areas, meeting spaces and locales for more intimate gatherings. | Beta Studio :: University of Colorado at Boulder :: Faculty: Shane Rymer |
